FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK…
JOHN 11:41 – Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.
Do you thank God for hearing your prayers? We often take for granted the fact that God hears us. Yet, if Jesus took the time to thank the Father for listening, how much more should we thank Him? Instead, we ask for help and wait for His answer before offering thanks, if we thank Him at all. The throne of grace is a privilege reserved for born-again, blood-bought, and blood-washed believers. We should humble ourselves and be grateful for the opportunity to bring our requests to the One, True, and Living God, whether He answers or not.
We celebrate Thanksgiving on November 24th this year. But we should not wait until then to give God thanks. Instead, we should thank Him to the Tees; today, this afternoon, tonight, and tomorrow. Now would also be a perfect time to thank God for simply hearing your prayer. Notice that Jesus didn’t wait for the answer to thank the Father. Prayer is an act of faith centered on the Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit. We have thousands of reasons to thank Him. Will you thank Him right now?
I am thankful God loves me, even though I’m unlovable much of the time. Still, He holds me close and loves me through my trials. His love does not fail me when I sin and fail Him. Instead, he is ready to forgive me when I repent and genuinely seek His forgiveness. Thank you, Lord! Thank you for hearing my prayers. Thank you for never leaving nor forsaking me. Thank you for redemption, salvation, reconciliation, restoration, and the new creation you’ve made of me. Thank you for loving, saving, and hearing me! ~~Pastor Greg

CONTRIBUTIONS TO NEWSLETTER FUND
Anon. thru church treasury $40.00
Thank you for your generous support.
DEAR READERS: Like gasoline and groceries, the cost of copy paper has taken a steep rise. We mail a little over 300 letters each month, and another 40 or so are picked up here at church. Just over 40 readers receive the letter via e-mail. Postage is now at .213 cents per letter using our mailing permit. Not complaining, we love that you love getting the letter, and you support this effort very well. We are blessed. However, if you think that you would be okay with receiving the letter via e-mail only, just let us know. This would save on both postage and paper.
CONGRATULATIONS to Willie Rose and Dorey Winters, on their Oct. 22 wedding here at the church. Many years of happiness!
The 911 ADDRESSING PROJECT came sweeping through the big town of Ona the first week of August. The addresses don’t seem to make much sense to us, but they are designed to make it easier for first responders to locate us. PLEASE CALL, MAIL, E-MAIL, TEXT OR JUST PLAIN TELL US YOUR NEW ADDRESS. If you are at church, there is a basket of note cards on the foyer table for your convenience, or you can use the Newsletter sign-up slips. Thanks to all who have supplied us with your new address. But we still need many more! Please call or drop us a note.
WOWS MEET
The “Wild, Wonderful Son-lighters” met at Patty Morrison’s home on Oct. 27 for our Harvest Party. We tried our hand at decorating seasonal cookies and balloons and played a rousing game of the “Left, Right” game. Two Christmas shoeboxes were filled from our donations and added to the church’s collected boxes. A meal of barbecues, hot dogs, and desserts was enjoyed by all. ~~Ruth Caldwell, Sec./Treas.
(All church and community widows, widowers, and singles are invited to join this group.)

MISSION PROJECTS
In September and October, we collected funds for shipping costs for Samaritan’s Purse Love in a Shoebox, also known as Operation Christmas Child. We raised $2,618 for this cause. On Sunday, Nov. 13, our children lined the front of the sanctuary, each holding a filled box, as we prayed a prayer of dedication for our 363 boxes! We pray each box, which will also contain the Gospel story in the child’s own language, will reach into the hearts of each child.
In November, we need funds for the Christmas Basket project. We make about 90 baskets each year, helping those in need and honoring those who are 80 years of age, widowed, ill, and in assisted living. Since the covid pandemic, we have given grocery store cards instead of groceries, and fresh fruit and Christmas cakes, cookies, and candies. To help, make your check to the church, and write Christmas Baskets on the memo line. Also, if you can, bring Christmas goodies and place them in the collection basket in the front foyer. Thanks so much!
ABWM COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROJECT for October was collecting body wash and wipes for the Emma Dolin Hospice House in Huntington. Thanks to everyone who brought these in, they were much needed and appreciated.
MISSIONARY VISIT
Our own Bobby Bowen, Global Outreach missionary to Uganda, Africa, joined us on Oct. 30 to update us on her work. Bobby was abruptly sent back to the USA due to the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020. She has now been here two and one-half years, but continues to work every day, thanks to trusted co-laborers in Uganda. She is able to send money from here to Africa “in 15 seconds” via cell phone. At her direction via internet, her co-laborers buy and distribute food to 300 families weekly, plus to an orphanage housing 90 children. As they have here, food prices have doubled there.
She reported that Global Outreach has no overhead expenses. Their headquarters in Mississippi are supported through donations. So, each dollar that is given for food actually buys food.
She showed beautiful pictures of her co-workers and many of the people receiving help.
After her talk, the ABWM hosted a lunch for her so we could talk more in depth. She shared that she is facing some personal difficulties as she is the sole caretaker of her ex-mother-in-law who suffers from dementia, and Bobby’s housing situation is in jeopardy due to another person’s neglect. She requests prayer for these problems, and has great faith that God will provide.
A favorite quote from Bobby, “Where love is left, the Gospel is heard.”
What type of lights were used on Noah’s Ark?
Flood lights.
Why didn’t Noah go fishing from the Ark?
He only brought two worms.

BAMBY NEWS
Stacks and bags of socks appeared on the table in the front foyer as the youth sponsored “Socktober.” Mitzi reported that they gathered three large trash bags full! We know the folks at the Huntington City Mission are very grateful for these, especially since our weather has turned quite chilly lately.
CHILDREN’S MINISTRY NEWS
Oct 30th was the children’s awards ceremony. This is the first one in a while. Children earn awards for their sashes by memorizing that month’s Bible verse. Also, for learning the Lord’s Prayer. We are so proud of them and thank you to parents for working with them. Thanks to Kara Litteral for heading this up. Also, Debbie Chapman and her mom for sewing the sashes and Brooke Chapman for the children’s names on the sashes.
On November 13th the Children finished up packing their “Love in a Shoebox” for the needy children in foreign countries. Children’s Ministry packed 20 boxes. The children watched the Samaritan’s Purse video about delivering these boxes. What a wonderful organization. Special thanks to Sharon Hayes & Casey Morrison for heading this up. Also on Nov. 13, Jesus Kids sang at Paramount Senior Living Home in Ona. From the old hymns to some modern church songs the kids sang wonderfully. The residents love the kids visiting and some say they are so sweet and cute!! We enjoyed Earl Fetty singing a song too. Thanks to Christy Holley for leading the kids. And for the Jesus Kids meal after singing. Chunky Chapman had a Mexican supper for them. Yum Yum!!
All the children are working hard on this year’s Christmas program. Special thanks to Lisa Vititoe for directing this play. On December 11th at 7 pm, the program called “Christmas in Black & White” will be presented. It’s a penguin theme and tells the Gospel message for all.
Still Looking for more prayer buddies. What a blessing if you have one. The kids love their prayer buddies. See Boo for details. Pray for our kids. ~~Children’s Ministry Team
FAMILY NIGHT OF ART
So, you think you can’t paint a picture, but when the instructor guides you step-by-step, you can! On Saturday night, Nov. 12, twenty-eight would be painters plus three children were instructed by Ann Ryder Henry, and walla! Beautiful paintings of a little white church surrounded by pines, with a Christmas wreath on the door were created! “O Come All Ye Faithful” was written at the bottom. Everyone had fun, enjoyed great snacks, and went home with their creation. Thank you to Erin Carter, Chair of Adult Ministries, for arranging this activity.
LORD, SEND A REVIVAL
And He did! Oct. 23-28, Willie May, Pastor of the England Hill Freewill Baptist Church in Catlettsburg, KY, brought the Word of God in a powerful way.
On Sunday morning, his message was from John 6:1-6. The choir sang, and James Perry sang two solos, including “I Can’t Even Walk Without You Holding My Hand.” This must have been a message we needed, because it was sung by two other singers later in the week. By request, Willie also sang “Walk Through the Garden of My Heart,” his signature song. Sunday night, the Jay Humphrey Trio brought the special music, and they were wonderful.
On Monday night, Willie spotted George Winters in the congregation, and brought him up to sing “What a Lovely Name.” George may be getting on in years, but has the joy of singing in his heart. On Tuesday, he taught us about Naaman from II Kings 5:1. The choir from Lighthouse Baptist Church brought the special music, and we love these wonderful folks and love to worship with Tim and Kandi Messinger again.
On Tuesday night, Willie brought The Gate City Quartet from his home church (of which he is a part), and they sang some old favorites marvelously. Willie continued his message focused on Naaman. A young man was saved that night!
On Wednesday, Ryan Thompson from Salt Rock Community Church played his guitar and sang for us, doing an excellent job. Willie brought a message from John 3:1-3 and Proverbs 16:16.
Thursday, the choir from Susannah joined us, and then our choir joined them to sing “It is Well with My Soul.” We made the rafters rock. Willie brought a message from John 3:15-16. Pastor Greg presented him with a fruit and cheese basket from the church. We think he liked it!
The last night of the revival, our own choir sang, then Blessings brought some special music. We took a love offering for our evangelist. As he often did, Willie called up an impromptu quartet from the congregation, including George Winters. They sang, “Time Has Made a Change in Me,” a song that rings true with many of us. Willie’s sermon was from Luke 23:32-38 & 43, “Seven Statements.” We encourage you to look up all the Biblical references from this week, and read them for a blessing.
This revival was Spirit-filled and will be an encouragement and remembered for a long time.
AND REVIVAL CONTINUED
Beulah Anners recently participated in a three-day Revival with sister Antioch and Susannah Baptist churches. It was a grand and glorious time each night as Pastor Tommy Reed from Fitzpatrick Baptist Church in Prestonsburg, Kentucky, preached the word with Holy Ghost power and clarity! Sunday evening, November 6, 2022, we kicked things off at Beulah Ann. The parking lot filled quickly, and we scrambled to get cars parked behind the church and around the garage! It was stirring to have the church filled again. The spirit of unity and brother and sisterhood was uplifting to all. The McComas Quartet did an outstanding job on our special music. Lonnie Scraggs said it was such an unusual privilege for the quartet to sing to three churches at once! Monday night, we traveled out Fudges Creek to Susannah and Pastor Steve Hinkle, where we enjoyed another Spirit-inspired night of fellowship, praise, and worship. The Revival concluded Tuesday at Antioch with the observance of Communion. We cannot thank Pastors Nate Jude and Jacob Marshall enough for planning and organizing this outstanding Ona-community Revival. ~~ Pastor Greg

WVBC ANNUAL MEETING
Summersville Baptist Church was the setting for the 157th Annual Meeting of the WV Baptist Convention Churches Oct. 20-21. Our delegates were Pastor Greg and Jeanne Lunsford, Jim and Jo Ross, and Vera Miller. Pat Grass and Pat Morrison also attended Women’s Day just prior to the Annual Meeting, along with Jo and Vera. Jim Ross and Pastor Greg attended Men’s Day, traveling to the nearby Summit Bechtel Reserve, a large Boy Scout Camp, which was interesting and beautiful. Jim and Jo attended the BCM Dinner, and Jim and Jo and Vera attended the WV Baptist Historical Society Luncheon, which featured a nationally known speaker Dr. Lee Spitzer, introducing his newest book Sympathy, Silence and Solidarity, a study of the Baptist response in Europe and America to the Holocaust.
As always, the missionaries, speakers, and music were tremendous. It is always uplifting to hear of all the work for Christ being done both in WV and around the world.
GOOD NEWS NUGGETS
Midnight Storm provided our special music for our Fifth Sunday Night Sing on Oct. 30. We enjoyed their singing as well as their playing of the guitar, banjo, mandolin, and stand-up bass. Great job!
On the Sunday before Veteran’s Day, we found the front of the church draped in many, many beautiful quilts, all red, white, and blue. Sew Blest and In Stitches presented a quilt to each and every Veteran present (about 15), and sent a few more to those who were not able to be there. What an amazing gift!
We observed Pastor Appreciation Sunday on Oct. 16. We showered our Pastor and his lovely wife with gifts from each ministry department and from the church.
Also, on Oct. 16, our wonderful singing group “Blessings” brought a very special rendition of “I’m a Survivor,” while showing Power Point pictures of many, many survivors in our church, many who have overcome cancer and other illnesses and problems. Thank you, Blessings, it was a wonderful tribute.
Research tell us that fourteen out of any ten individuals like chocolate.
