Plan to attend Homecoming in September! We would love to see you. If you are coming from out of town, please don’t worry about bringing food, there will be plenty!

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK…
Preachers do it far too often. Some who testify do it with passion and conviction. Most don’t realize their engagement in such scandalous behavior, nor do they recognize the harm it brings to the Church. I’m talking about bragging about Satan. We rage against the rise of homosexuality, the breakdown of the biblical family, the redefinition of marriage, and the chaos of radicalized government. Do you not see what we’re doing? We’re bragging about Satan’s effectiveness and confirming the weakness of the 21st-century Church! We sound defeated, alarmed, and, in some cases, unhinged! It’s time we return the Gospel as the primary message of our preaching, teaching, and witness.
Brother Gene Caldwell says, “We need to stop telling people how good the devil’s doing.” He’s right! The truth is, the devil isn’t doing any good. Jesus Christ went about doing good. He’s still doing good, and we need to preach, teach, sing, and testify about that! Victory is in Jesus Christ! Those living in this sin-cursed world can have it if they repent and believe the Gospel. But they won’t get the Good News if we continue spending more time on Satan’s work than Christ’s! We need to preach more about the cross, where forgiveness, redemption, salvation, and eternal life were purchased by the body and blood of the sinless savior, Jesus Christ!
The Holy Spirit works through born-again believers! If you find yourself drawn to complain about the world, look up. Your redemption is closer now than ever. All these temporary troubles trying to trip and trap bona fide believers have no eternal hold on you. There’s joy, peace, and life in Christ. Preach victory and deliverance from sin. Encourage the broken to come and learn of Jesus. Proclaim the love, mercy, and justice of a holy, righteous, and just God! If it isn’t covered by the blood, it’s judged in the flood before the great white throne. ~~Pastor Greg

MISSION PROJECTS
In June, our church Mission Project was Lily’s Place, where newborn babies born with drug addiction (due to mother’s use) are cared for. We donated $500 for this cause.
In July, we are giving to buy school supplies for students at Ona Elementary School who cannot afford all they need. To give, just write Ona Elementary on the memo line of your check.
The ABWM Community Outreach Project for June was newborn socks, paper towels, and reuseable shopping bags for Lily’s Place. What a response! We collected 141 pairs of tiny socks, a few paper towels, and 87 tote bags, a few miscellaneous baby items. They were so excited to receive these. Thanks to all who participated.
In the June issue of “The Lily Pad,” we find this note from a mom – “My son was born with NAS and spent two months at Lily’s Place. You could tell they care about their babies and families. I never once felt judged or belittled. I absolutely love Lily’s Place – they saved my son and me. I feel like without them, I very well could have fallen right back to what brought us here in the first place. Thankfully, my recovery has been continuous and it’s all thanks to my support system through Lily’s Place. We love Lily’s Place and everyone who works hard to make families feel welcomed and loved.”
A bottle of water can be $1 at the market, $3 at a restaurant, $4 at the movies, $5 at the ball game, and $6 at the airport. It’s the same exact water. The only thing that changed its value was the place. So, the next time you feel like you have no value, maybe you’re in the wrong place.

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY NEWS
The last Sunday in June we held the Children’s Ministry awards in the morning church service. The children have been working hard for the Spring & Summer Contest learning Bible verses, attending church, and bringing their Bible. We are so proud of them.
On Sunday July 14th was our Barboursville Park outing with the winners of the Spring & Summer Contest. We enjoyed eating under the shelter and playing on the playground which had a cool breeze from the lake. But by 3 pm we were ready to go to Tom and Susan McComas’ pool. That was refreshing. The kids say thank you Uncle Tom & Aunt Susan.
Wonder where our fall attendance contest trip will take them? Our Back-to-School Party is August 11th. Stay cool! ~~Children’s Ministry Team
Have you seen the banners made for the 125th Anniversary, hanging in the balcony area? Aren’t they beautiful? The 150th Anniversary Committee would like for each Sunday School Class and group to make a banner for our December 26 150th Anniversary. We would like them to be more uniform this time, so we will supply the material, then you can add your creativity to it! Please see Pastor Greg, Jo Ross, Duane Adkins, Pat Grass or Becky Childers, and we will get you the material to get you started.

GOOD NEWS NUGGETS
We are so pleased to have visitors enjoying our historical displays. On June 28th Theresa Yoho Shy and Margie Yoho Perry (home for a family reunion) spent lots of time relishing in the memories spurred by our exhibits. Then on Saturday, July 13, the Ray Reunion took place in our Family Center, and sisters Mary Ray Brubeck, Reba Ray Dunford, and Nellie Ray Harshbarger took a tour, along with niece Debbie Napier. They really seemed to enjoy it. On July 16, Reba and Bill Anderson from Alabama dropped by. We are happy so many are enjoying the exhibits.
Jo Ross has been bringing short talks on Sundays at 11:00 called “A Moment in History.” These will continue until our anniversary. Also, Pastor Greg has videoed interviews of Gene Caldwell, age 101, and Viola Adkins, age 93, to share their memories. We have seen one clip of Gene Caldwell, and are looking forward to more.
Our Fifth Sunday Night Sing on June 30 brought us wonderful singing and pickin’ from the Friendly Neighbors. Jesse Lacy, the pastor of Bowen Ridge Church, his wife Gail, daughter Cindy, and neighbor Joey brought us many songs, including “Just Any Day Now,” “The Lighthouse,” and “On Heaven’s Bright Shore.” We especially enjoyed Cindy’s playing of the stand-up bass fiddle. Great job.
Father’s Day was June 16, and all fathers present got a small gift, and Gene Caldwell was recognized as the oldest father present, and Chris Carter was recognized as the father of the youngest baby present, which was T. D. Carter at 10 months. They each received restaurant gift cards from Adult Ministries.
Another guest singer brought blessings on July 7. Cassie Adkins used her beautiful voice and upbeat presence to sing “Thank You Lord,” and “Nothing But the Blood.” She is Brooke Neal’s sister!
George Leese has accepted the call to Pastor at Good Shepard Freewill Baptist Church in Huntington. George has been a great help to Pastor Greg and will be missed.
The ABWM would like to thank everyone who participated in our WV Blessings offering on June 12. The total was $302.56. Wonderful!
SESQUICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION
On December 26, 2024, Beulah Ann will be 150 years old! The Anniversary Committee has planned many events, and we want to encourage everyone to attend, especially those of you have moved away, because we would love to have you visit “home” and worship with us on any or all of these special events. Our events started in June when we turned 149½! Here are the upcoming events:
Sun., Aug. 11, 6 pm – Simon Morrison, pastor of Mud River Baptist Church and who was raised in this church, will speak. Mud River is our “Mother Church.” Their congregation will also be worshipping with us, and we will have a fellowship reception after service. (Note the service time change!)
Sun., Aug. 25, 11 am – Our guest speaker will be home grown Casey Chapman, son Brent and Debi Chapman, grandson of Richard and Peggy Chapman.
Sun., Sept. 8, 11 am – Our guest speaker will be home grown Tyler Sansom, from Indiana, son of Ricky and Debbie Sansom.
Sun., Sept. 15 – Homecoming! We are going back to old-fashioned homecoming. Pastor Greg will speak at 11 am, then we will dismiss for dinner, but not in a hurry. So that no one will have to leave service early to prepare the tables, we will have about a 20 – minute period to fellowship, and look at the historical displays if you would like. Then we will return to the sanctuary around 1:30, where Calvin Ray Evans will speak around 2 pm. Special singers will be Redeemed by Grace, from Proctorville. (No evening service.)
Sun., Nov. 17, 11:00 am – Old Fashioned Dress-up Day & Thanksgiving Service. Fellas, get your suspenders out, and ladies, find your bonnet! We can’t wait to see what you come up with. (For ideas, look at the 1999 tri-fold in the Historical Display room.)
Sun., Dec. 29, 11:00 – Sesquicentennial Celebration! Historical quilts will be on display, and we will open the Time Capsule that was created in 1999 at our 125thAnniversary. We will have a dinner with a very special cake! Our new Sesquicentennial quilt will be on display also.
The Adult Fellowship Sunday School Class has graciously allowed us to use their classroom for our historical displays. You may visit any time the church is open, or during office hours, Tues.-Fri., 9 am- 1 pm. Our new church directory will be ready by our anniversary also, and an update to the church history that was written by Mildred Caldwell up through 1999 will also be completed.
Our first 150th Anniversary event was “Dinner on the Ground” on Saturday, June 15. We had planned an outdoor picnic, but the heat and humidity were oppressive, so we moved to the Family Center! Still had picnic foods and homemade ice cream!
Our guest singer, Jacob Marshall, did a wonderful job. His first selection was “Wonderful Words of Life,” which was written in 1874, the same year our church was founded. We had invited four young preachers who all had their roots in Beulah Ann.
Tracy Mills, pastor of Madison Avenue Christian Church in Huntington, spoke of the Israelites spending 40 years in the desert before crossing the Jordan River, and how God told them to make a marker of twelve stones as a memorial to the place. It is important to remember and mark significant events, like a church anniversary. He shared many memories and named many people who had encouraged him in the early years of his ministry.
Jeff Fetty, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Point Pleasant, read Phillipians 1:6, and spoke of growing in Christ. He was thankful for his parents and grandparents, and named so many people from the church who had influenced his growth.
Jason Salmons, pastor of Salt Rock Community Church, told how he was unsaved when he was deployed overseas in 2003, and his wife Amy began attending here. He was saved after his return, and Pastor Paul assigned him and Amy to lead the “Read the Bible Through in One Year” effort, which made a big change in his life. He remarked we will not have faith or hope in heaven, because it will be real!
Tim Messinger, pastor of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Milton, told that he did not come to church as a young man. When he and Kandi had a baby in 1993, his mother-in-law Alliene Caldwell brought baby Sarah to church faithfully. When she went on a vacation, she made him promise to take the baby to church, which he did, and was saved. Later, at revival, he heard Calvin Ray Evans preach, “Obey the call,” and he knew that meant him.
MISSION SUNDAY
Our second Sesquicentennial event was Sunday, July 14, when we celebrated Mission Sunday. We had displays set up in the back of the church representing mission trips taken over the years by our members. One whole table represented the 20 trips taken by the late Ann Caldwell, ranging from many trips to countries in South America, the Caribbean, and even Russia and Australia. Another table represented trips to Alaska, Arizona (Hopi Indian School), Russia, and even to WV to help restore a flood-damaged church. There are so many more. A world map marked all the locations we have touched.
Missions have always been important at Beulah Ann. We have a healthy mission budget and an active ABWM. In the 1950’s, our Pastor Ernest Cremeans had a big heart for missions. He would say that a church that did not have a heart for missions would not flourish. He encouraged learning about and giving to missions. Also, in the 50’s, what is now our ABWM was formed, then called the Women’s Mission Society.
Rev. David Turley was our special speaker. He is currently pastor of the First Baptist Church of Reading, PA. For many years, he and his wife, Leslie were International Missionaries serving in Okinawa, Japan. We were hoping to have Leslie speak as well, but she was unable to come.
David spoke on Isaiah 41:10 “Fear thou not; for I am with thee…” When stepping out in faith, in stead of “go” we should think “come” with Jesus. There is no fear in the perfect love of God.
David spoke of his experiences and how they prepared him for events in the life of the church he pastors now, which shares the building with three Hispanic churches and one recovery church. They have all grown and learned from this unusual experience.
