MISSION PROJECTS
In July, we gave to buy school supplies for students at Ona Elementary School who cannot afford all they need. We collected $435.00 for this cause.
In August, our project is the Salvation Army. This is a Bible-based, non-profit international organization that preaches the gospel of Jesus Christ, and meets human needs in His name without discrimination. They are often the first on the scene when disasters occur, while helping to meet the needs of their local communities. If you wish to donate, write SA on the memo line of your check. Thanks.
Dear Reader,

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY NEWS
Wow it’s school time already. Kids are coming back from all their vacations this summer. On Sunday night August 11th we had a Back 2 School Bash at the Beaver Bldg. picnic shelter. Kids had a salad bar (they requested it!), pizza bar, and then later an ice cream bar. They played water games, got wet but dried off playing in the sun. It was a beautiful Sunday evening. The kids were sent home with backpacks full of items they can use at school or home. Thanks for all the parents who helped out.
Jesus Kids practice will resume Sunday August 18th. This will be for kindergarten thru 6th grade. Kids love to sing so we practice church songs every Sunday night at 6 pm. Then we sing at the Paramount Assisted Living every 2nd Sunday afternoon of each month. We also sing in church and sometimes other places.
Our Fall attendance contest begins this month and next month. Kids earn points for attending church, saying their Bible verse and bringing their Bible. We have a day trip planned on October 12th to Noah’s Ark for the winners! They must have over 12 points to win.
Pray for the children as they enter another school year. ~~Children’s Ministry Team
CAMP COWEN 2024
This report is from Reece Hunt, who attended Senior High Camp in July:
This year at Camp Cowen our focus was on doing everything in love.
1 Corinthians 16:13-14 – Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong. And do everything in love.
This year at Camp Cowen was another fun year with friends, old and new, getting closer to Jesus. We played games that were Olympic-themed working together as a team. They started a new thing called Table Talk, which is where we broke up into small groups where we were given a verse to analyze and discuss what each of us thought it meant. This took the place of Vespers, which I really missed. We had evening worship every evening and lots of music. “Made for More” was my favorite song that we sang.
Some Key Points that I took away are: Don’t settle, wait for what God’s best is for you; True bravery is pushing through your fear;
Know the Word of God better than the enemy; Carry out the Word of God in our identity; What God has done for us, we should do for others; God puts His joy in us so our joy will be full; To Love is to live like Jesus; God CHOSE me! John 15:16 – this was my favorite verse!

GOOD NEWS NUGGETS
J Colton Kisner was our guest speaker for both services on July 21, while Pastor Greg enjoyed a nice vacation. Colton is the husband of our own Jenny Dailey. He is originally from Preston County, but he and Jenny spent a few years in Texas where he completed his master’s degree in theology and served in churches there, before moving back to WV four years ago, and they now live in Jenny’s late grandparent’s house, Rev. Denver Dailey. In the morning, he spoke on Psalm 2:1-12. He noted parts of this passage are quoted three times in the New Testament. He emphasized that we must remember that Jesus has all authority, and that God laughs at mortals who think they have great political power.
J We hope you had your photo taken Aug. 9-12 for our new Church Directory. This directory will be special since it is our 150th Anniversary, and we hope to include some historical pictures.
J Our Sanctuary Choir sang in revival at Sunrise Temple on Monday, Aug. 12. We received a warm welcome, and enjoyed the sermon brought by Steve Cook. J The Willing Workers Sunday School Class was invited to the home of Ed and Debbie Dillon on July 27, for a great meal and a dip in the swimming pool. Not much swimming was done, but we had really good fellowship. Thank you to the Dillons!
J The Widows, Widowers, and Singles group was welcomed into the home of Patty Morrison on July 20 for a wonderful dinner, catered by Angie Neal! Twenty-three guests from Beulah Ann and Lighthouse Baptist gathered for the meal and fellowship. Linda Leese brought a devotion entitled “Sheep and Goats,” which everyone enjoyed.

What a happy day!
SESQUICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION
On December 26, 2024, Beulah Ann will be 150 years old! The Anniversary Committee has planned many events, and we want to encourage everyone to attend, especially those of you have moved away, because we would love to have you visit “home” and worship with us on any or all of these special events. Our events started in June when we turned 149½! Here are the upcoming events:
è Sun., Aug. 25, 11 am – Our guest speaker will be home grown Casey Chapman, son Brent and Debi Chapman, grandson of Richard and Peggy Chapman.
è Sun., Sept. 8, 11 am – Our guest speaker will be home grown Tyler Sansom, from Indiana, son of Ricky and Debbie Sansom.
è Sun., Sept. 15 – Homecoming! We are going back to old-fashioned homecoming. Pastor Greg will speak at 11 am, then we will dismiss for dinner, but not in a hurry. So that no one will have to leave service early to prepare the tables, we will have about a 20- minute period to fellowship, and look at the historical displays if you would like. Then we will return to the sanctuary around 1:30 pm, where Calvin Ray Evans will speak around 2 pm. Special singers will be Redeemed by Grace, from Proctorville. (No evening service.)
è Sun., Nov. 17, 11:00 am – Old Fashioned Dress-up Day & Thanksgiving Service. Fellas, get your suspenders out, and ladies, find your bonnet! We can’t wait to see what you come up with. (For ideas, look at the 1999 tri-fold in the Historical Display room.)
è Sun., Dec. 29, 11:00 – Sesquicentennial Celebration! Historical quilts will be on display, and we will open the Time Capsule that was created in 1999 at our 125th Anniversary. We will have a dinner with a very special cake! Our newSesquicentennial quilt will be on display also.
The Adult Fellowship Sunday School Class has graciously allowed us to use their classroom for our historical displays. You may visit any time the church is open, or during office hours, Tues.-Fri., 9 am-1 pm. Our new church directory will be ready by our anniversary also, and an update to the church history that was written by Mildred Caldwell up through 1999 will also be completed.
VISIT FROM MOTHER CHURCH
What a wonderful fellowship we had Sunday night, Aug. 11. Pastor Simon Morrison of Mud River Baptist Church, was our guest speaker. Simon grew up in our church and was saved in the “old church” at the age of seven. He shared with us many memories. He recounted how John Rimmer would greet everyone with a big handshake slap, and if you were a child, you would end up with a bubble gum in your hand. He had memories of Luther Morrison, Mary Lou Elkins, Viola Adkins, Oliver Beckett, Elsworth Markin, and others.
He reminded us that in the year of our founding, the Civil War wounds were still fresh, brother against brother in this area. In 1876, Rev. Thomas Hawkins Jr., son of one of our founders, called for a great revival, and he encourage people to bury the hatchet and bury hard feelings, and things were much better from that point on. Our founder, Thomas Hawkins, was Simon’s great-great-grandfather.
He preached from Psalm 16:5-7. He told us how important it is for us to pass down our heritage and our godly traditions. Some traditions are worth protecting.
We had copies of the drawing of a tree that shows all the churches which were planted from Mud River Baptist Church, showing 28 churches. He said that now, from those 28, there are over 300 church plants. What a heritage!
Many folks from Mud River joined us for worship and for fellowship afterward. Many of them enjoyed visiting our Historical Display room, and stayed for refreshments. It was truly a wonderful evening.
(CORRECTION: Last month we wrote that Rev. Tracy Mills was pastor of Open-Door Baptist Church, but he is pastor of Madison Avenue Christian Church. Sorry for the error.)
THE SCENT OF AUGUST
Bright sunlit skies,
Nature’s warm colors,
The smell of seasons about to change,
The hint of new beginnings,
Knowing something wonderful is around the bend.
GUYANDOTTE BAPTIST ASSOCIATION DAY CAMP JULY 15-19, 2024
The theme was “Arrow Island” Choosing God’s Way. Forty-three students in grades 1st thru 5th attended Day Camp. They spent the day in Bible lessons, crafts, and outdoor activities. In the afternoon we had special activities – water slides, water balloons, inflatable slide, and the Ona VFD came out to hose down the campers. It was so hot that week!
Six Association churches and five non-association churches and several campers with no church affiliation participated.
We praise the Lord for all the volunteers – thirteen youth and the adult staff members. We greatly appreciate all the Association churches who provided lunches for everyone – Good Hope, Hope Christian, Milton and 26th St. Baptist. May God bless each of you.
The teachers for the week were Lisa Vititoe, Meredith Crawford, Jennifer Hanson and Ann Hinkle. Our music staff was outstanding with Helen Freeman and Terry Bowen. They were wonderful. “Feathers” the puppet helped with the music and games. Mike from Union Baptist led the Vesper Service on Friday. We have planted the seed of the gospel in each of the camper’s hearts.
Day Camp Pastor – Tim Arthur
Board of Christian Education: Lisa Morris, Dawn Venoy, Anita Robinson, Helen Freeman, Rebecca Childers.
Day Camp is so exciting and a BLESSING. Former campers were reminiscing about how great Day Camp was for them and now they are bringing their children. God is so GOOD. Praising God for allowing me to be able to work with this wonderful group of volunteers. What a BLESSING! ~~Rebecca Childers
